At the end of September this year, the international refractory congress UNITECR was held in Frankfurt. The leitmotif of this edition was ‘The Carbon Challenge’ and focused on the importance of the refractory industry's contribution to the global transformation of the industry towards emission neutrality.
Refractory materials will play a key role as a tool for the reduction of the carbon footprint and CO2 emissions through incremental product improvement, revision of lining concepts, recycling and utilisation of secondary raw materials, and the enhancement of regional supply chains.
The BAUXAL project plays a relevant role in all these aspects, contributing mainly in the field of circular economy and managing to reduce the extraction of virgin raw materials, logistics from outside the EU, thermal efficiency (lower energy consumption) of industrial facilities, the contribution of waste to landfill, etc.
